5th Grade Inclement Weather Plan for Home Learning Days

Inclement Weather Assignments for 5th Grade

If schools are closed because of inclement weather, choose 4 of the following to complete at home. Be prepared to turn in or discuss your work when we return to school.

  • Math: Find or make up a recipe for one of your favorite foods. Copy the original list of ingredients down with the measurements. Then USE FRACTIONS to rewrite the list of ingredients for a one-half recipe.
  • Math: Go to www.math-drills.com to practice multiplication and division facts. If you do not have access to a computer, practice your multiplication and division facts by writing them on a piece of paper for 15 minutes (or until the paper is filled up).
  • Reading: Read your AR book for 30 minutes. If you do not have an AR book at home, read what you DO have – like a newspaper, magazine, or other books. Then write a summary of what you have read. Summaries MUST be AT LEAST 7 sentences long.
  • Reading / Social Studies: Find a current event from a newspaper or TV news and write a 1-paragraph summary. Be sure to include: WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY IT IS IMPORTANT.
  • Writing – Create a 3-paragraph narrative story about the best snow day ever. Be sure to include dialogue, transition words to manage the passage of time, and plenty of description words to make your story interesting.
  • All subjects – Log on to https://educationgalaxy.com/ or http://www.abcya.com/ to access educational online games. Focus on reading and math skills and work for at least 30 minutes.
